One huge benefit of moving in autumn is that the weather is likely to be much cooler than in the summer, with highs averaging about 70°, though they can go as low as 60°. To prepare for this, make sure you have working heating in both homes (where you’re leaving and where you’re going) to compensate for the doors and windows that may be kept open during the move-in process. Additionally, dress in layers so you’re prepared for the cool weather and how you warm up as you work. And because fall can be a season for rain, keep an eye on the weather forecast, and weatherproof your boxes, just in case.
Safety
With falling leaves (and twigs and maybe branches) all over the ground, getting slippery with any rainfall, there could be some potential hazards for you and your local movers loading and unloading your trucks. Take the time in advance to rake up any yard debris and clear the walking paths to keep things safe. It can also help to cover your floors inside to avoid tracking rain or mud inside.
Timing
Remember that Daylight Savings Time is the first Sunday in November, so if you’re planning your move then, make sure your clock is adjusted so you’re on time for your scheduled move. Additionally, you might want to start early, since days start getting shorter through the fall months. And finally, school is back in session, so keep in mind your kids’ schedules, as well as any school zones or drop-off or pick-up traffic you may encounter during your move.
