Long Distance Moving Services
Moving across state lines is a different kind of undertaking. The distance is longer, the planning window is bigger, and the stakes are higher when your belongings are traveling hundreds of miles in a truck you cannot follow. What happens to your things between pickup and delivery matters a lot, and that is exactly where most long-distance moving companies fall short.
Little Guys Movers has been handling long-distance residential moves since 1992. We move households across the country the way we move them across town: carefully, reliably, and with a crew that takes the job personally because it is their name on the truck too.
How Our Long Distance Moving Service Works
Most long-distance moving companies use third-party drivers and rotating crews. Your belongings get loaded by one team, transferred to another truck somewhere in the middle, and delivered by a crew who has never met you and has no context for what is fragile, what is valuable, or what matters most. That is the industry standard. It is not our standard.
The same crew, start to finish
The people who load your home are the same people who deliver it. No transfers, no handoffs, no strangers opening the truck at the other end. Your crew knows what they packed, where it is on the truck, and how to get it off safely. That continuity is one of the most meaningful differences in the long-distance moving experience.
A locked truck from pickup to delivery
Your belongings travel in a dedicated, locked truck for the entirety of the move. Nothing gets added after your home is loaded, and nothing gets removed before delivery. What goes on the truck at your house comes off the truck at your new home.
Experienced movers only on long-distance jobs
Long-distance moves require a higher level of experience than local jobs. We staff long-distance crews accordingly. The people handling a 600-mile move are not learning on the job.
How to Plan a Long Distance Move: Timeline and Logistics
Long-distance moves benefit from more lead time than local moves. Four to six weeks is a comfortable planning window for most interstate relocations. Larger households, specialty items, or moves during peak season (late spring through summer) benefit from even more runway.
Here is what the planning process looks like with Little Guys:
- We walk through your home or conduct a virtual walkthrough to build a detailed, accurate quote
- We confirm the pickup date and delivery window based on your move-in timeline at the destination
- We coordinate packing services if needed, either full-service or for specific rooms and items
- We handle specialty items: pianos, safes, artwork, and oversized furniture
- We confirm delivery logistics at the destination: building access, elevator reservations, and parking
On moving day, the crew arrives, loads everything, and departs. You get updates throughout transit and a confirmed delivery window before the truck arrives at your new home.
Long Distance Movers Serving Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Colorado, and Beyond
We have locations across all six states, and a significant portion of our long-distance volume moves between these markets. That means we have existing familiarity with the routes, the destination cities, and, in many cases, the specific buildings and neighborhoods your belongings are headed to. Moving to one of our markets? We’ll come to you for loading and bring you home!
If you are moving from Dallas to Nashville, from Fayetteville to Fort Collins, or from Raleigh to Austin, there is a real chance your crew has made that drive before. That familiarity is not nothing when your belongings are in the truck.
What Is Included in a Long-Distance Move
Long-distance moves often benefit from more support than a local move does. When you are coordinating a move across state lines, you have enough to manage without also packing an entire house. Here is what we can handle:
- Full-service packing at origin and unpacking at destination
- Specialty item packing: pianos, artwork, antiques, and fragile items
- Furniture disassembly at origin and reassembly at destination
- Storage coordination if there is a gap between your move-out and move-in dates
- Load-only service if you prefer to handle packing yourself
- Donation and unwanted item removal before the move

Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book a long-distance moving company?
For most interstate moves, four to six weeks gives you a good planning window. If you are moving during peak season, late spring through August, booking six to eight weeks out is safer. The further in advance you book, the more flexibility you have on pickup and delivery dates. Contact your nearest Little Guys location to check availability for your timeline.
How does Little Guys price a long-distance move?
We offer both item-based and hourly pricing and will walk you through which approach makes more sense for your specific move. We build the quote around a detailed inventory of what you are moving, your origin and destination, and any additional services, such as packing or storage. All foreseeable costs are included upfront before your move date.
Will the same crew that loads my home deliver it?
Yes. On Little Guys long-distance moves, the same crew handles pickup and delivery. We do not use third-party drivers or transfer your belongings between trucks. The people who load your home are the people who unload it at the destination.
What happens if my new home is not ready when the truck arrives?
We work with you to build a delivery window that aligns with your move-in date. If your timeline changes, we coordinate storage so your belongings are secure until your new home is ready. We handle the logistics of getting everything into storage and back out, so you do not have to manage that separately.
Do you move specialty items on long-distance moves?
Yes. Pianos, gun safes, artwork, antiques, and other specialty items travel on our long-distance moves with the same care they receive on local jobs. If an item requires custom crating, we arrange that before the move date so it is ready to load on moving day.
