Moving requires a lot of planning on a local level, so long distance moves are obviously going to require additional focus and coordination. Luckily, you don’t have to do it all on your own. Little Guys Movers in Waco has seen and done it all, and can help you as much or little as you like with your next big move.
Long Distance Mover Services
When choosing your long distance movers, you’ll want to make sure they offer the services that you’re looking for and will prioritize you. Some people prefer to pack their belongings themselves, cart it all at once, and reassemble their own furniture on the other end. Others would rather leave the packing to the professionals and leave some of their stuff in storage to help keep unpacking orderly. Little Guys Movers offers all of these options, so you can move however you like:
- Packing and Unpacking Services – organized, labeled, and using our own packing supplies
- Specialty Items – carefully protected and transported
- Furniture Disassembly and Reassembly – taken down, moved, and put back together wherever you want it
- Loading and Unloading – using protective moving quilts and plenty of ‘truck Tetris’ experience
- Storage – long- or short-term storage options until you’re ready for your belongings
- Full Value Protection (FVP) – full liability protection
- Expedited services – to get you your stuff asap
Advice for Long Distance Moves
Since we’ve done long distance moves before — we’re proud to say we just helped with a move from Waco to New York City — we have a few tips to pass on to help you prepare for your own.
One Moving Company, One Customer
First and foremost, make sure you are your movers’ only customer at the time of your move. Some movers will take on multiple long distance customers at a time, load the belongings of all of those customers into the same truck, and then take one long trip across the country to drop them off along the way. This runs the risk of boxes and furniture being mixed up, as well as your delivery window being incredibly vague — sometimes as long as 20 days. Little Guys only ever takes on one customer at a time and gives a delivery window of one specific date so you can be confident of delivery.
Plan Your Road Trip
Your movers will handle getting all of your furniture and other things to your new home, but you are responsible for getting yourself there. Road trips across the country can take days, if not weeks, depending on your capacity, vehicle, and other factors, so you need to be fully prepared. Plan ahead. Know where you will stay each night — hotels, friends’ or family’s places, or even in the car — so you aren’t frustrated trying to hunt somewhere down when you’re tired. Pack a road trip bag with comfortable clothes and toiletries, and be sure to bring snacks and drinks. And, just as important, bring music, audiobooks, or some other entertainment to keep you awake and active during the drive.
Prepare for Things to Go Wrong (or Right)
When taking any kind of trip, or handling any kind of project like a move, you should always plan for the unexpected, namely by being adaptable. Maybe you’ll hit a lot of traffic, putting you behind schedule, or hit absolutely no traffic, putting you ahead. Bad weather could slow you down, or bad weather you were expecting never hit. Be ready to be flexible, and work with movers who can do the same.
